Empowering girls in technology
Emakina, an EPAM company, hosts the first Girl Powered event with Futureus
In a groundbreaking effort to inspire the next generation of female leaders in technology, we are proud to host and sponsor the first "Girl Powered" event in partnership with Futureus. The event will take place on Sunday, June 2nd, at our offices on Boulevard du Souverain.
Designed to ignite curiosity for new technologies, the event will welcome around 50 girls between the ages of 9 and 14. From 10am to 3pm, the girls will immerse themselves in an enlightening day of discovery, innovation and creativity.
An exciting journey into the world of tech
Girl Powered is a global initiative born out of the collaboration between the Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation and VEX Robotics. Their mission is to reshape the field of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), ensuring that robotics represents the diversity of our world.
During the event, our UX Researcher, Iva Filipović, will give a short introduction on the day's activities and then guide the girls in building their own AI chatbot. Next, Experience Consulting Director Ivanel Pérez Bolívar will lead a LittleBits workshop, offering hands-on fun with electronic building blocks. Finally, Futureus will teach the girls how to create their first robot.
"We are thrilled to host the very first 'Girl Powered' event in collaboration with Futureus," said Sophie Blondiaux, ESG Lead at Emakina, an EPAM company. "This event represents our effort to develop diversity and inclusion in the technology sector, while empowering young girls to explore their potential in STEM fields."
Empowering the innovators of tomorrow
The event promises an immersive experience, where the girls will collaborate in teams to tackle exciting technological challenges. From building robots to programming them using Scratch blocks, they will have the opportunity to unleash their creativity and problem-solving skills. Moreover, the event will provide an environment where the girls will realise they are the innovators of tomorrow, following in the path of the inspiring women who are leading the way in STEM careers.
"This event is for every young girl who dreams of exploring the world of robotics and programming, regardless of their level of experience," added Ivanel Pérez Bolívar. "We encourage them to sign up individually or with friends, as we believe in the power of teamwork and collaboration to drive innovation."
